Risk Management :: Reviewing Polices After the Boston Marathon Attack

As Kaylin Dedinsky, our ISES Indiana Program Manager, posted this in the ISES Community, it is something we all in the event industry should be thinking about and wanted to share:

With the most recent attack during the Boston Marathon, thoughts of security during events passed through the mind of all event professionals. Whether a large sporting event, a corporate function, or a social program, all events require contingency plans that are needing to be more detailed then ever.

In Indianapolis, the planners of the 500 Festival as well as the Indianapolis 500 are looking to reevaluate their current security plans after what happened in Boston. Below is an article speaking about the discussed changes that will need to be made, and the current practices that need to be honored or updated.

Another article from FOX News states that guests of large public events are becoming more aware and informed about attending programs. As event professionals, we need to look at how we will protect our guests, as well as what we can do to continue seeing guests come out to events, not staying in due to fear of the unknown.

What are companies doing to get this issue out there and discussed? Are you reevaluating your emergency action plans within your organization, including both your staff and all of your vendors?

In order to sooth the minds of our clients and guests (and ourselves as planners), this topic needs to be discussed.
