November's Free Member Event Wrap-up :: Black Acre Brewing Co!

November 27, 2012 was the second of four ISES Indiana Free Member Events! This event was a fun mingling and networking event at Black Acre Brewing Co. just 5 miles east of Monument Circle downtown! Everyone had a great time and thank you to everyone who came and got to enjoy this fun (and free) event!

Black Acre Brewing Company is a small batch artisan brewery and tap room located in the Historic Irvington neighborhood of Indianapolis with a focus on unique, specialty beers along with a few traditional favorites.  Thank you to Black Acre for hosting us at your super cool spot!  Thanks again to all of you who came out.

A little background information on the Free Member Events . . . ISES Indiana won and received $2,500 at the ISES Eventworld General Session in Dallas, TX earlier in August for increasing our membership by 25%. As a part of the ISES 25th Anniversary Eventworld Celebration, there was an award opportunity for all ISES chapters to earn $2,500 for a 25% increase in membership over the ISES 2011-2012 calendar year. We are thrilled to say that ISES Indiana was one of two ISES chapters in the world to receive this award for this excellent accomplishment with an approximately 28% increase in membership last year! Great job to the ISES Membership Committee and a very special thank you to all of our members for your continued support toward our ISES Indiana Chapter!

The ISES Indiana board members wanted to use this money as a "Thank You" to our AMAZING MEMBERS! We have chosen to use this money to give back to our members in the form of (FOUR) free member events during the July 2012 - June 2013 ISES year!! We had the first in August at Victory Field, second last night at the Black Acre Brewing Company and are planning two more awesome events next year with one each quarter that will be free to our members that are dedicated strictly to saying thank you.  We are planning the third free event as a February "Food-Challenge" event and the fourth event as an April "Pub-Crawl" event. More information for these last two events will be shared as the dates get closer. Thank you again to those who were able to come out and enjoy a night out with fellow ISES members! You won't want to miss these wonderfully exciting events and we hope to see you at the free events. Thank you again to all of our amazing members!

Sincerely, your ISES Indiana Board of Directors

The Alexander, is a new hotel opening in January 2013 and managed by Dolce Hotels that blends design with function in this unique urban hotel. One aspect that sets The Alexander apart from other hotels is its Art Program, curated by the Indianapolis Museum of Art, including 12 artworks created for the hotel by individual artists and a total of 40 works of art displayed in the hotel’s public spaces.  Located in the vibrant CityWay neighborhood in downtown Indianapolis.

·What is your title and position at your current company?   Wedding Specialist / Catering Sales Manager. I secure and service all weddings and social events, facilitating all details of the event ensuring the flawless execution of the clients vision.

·What does your company do? How is it different than others like it?  The Alexander, a Dolce hotel is Indianapolis' premier hotel project. We are the newest and chicest hotel downtown, boasting an art-centric vibe that creates a relaxed, inviting luxury. The Indianapolis Museum of Art has commissioned 20 artists to create 40 works of art exclusively for The Alexander. Not only will we be visually appealing, we are IACC certified and will provide unparalleled attention to service details. Our art-centric design will serve as the ultimate photo canvas to capture memories on film. We will be the impeccable backdrop for guests to experience a phenomenal event.

·How many years have you been in the industry?  6 Years

·What was your very first job? Lifeguard at Purvis Park Pool

·What lead you in into the event industry?  I have always been a people pleaser and extremely creative. The first event I ever planned was my very own Bat Mitzvah when I was 12. It was a shopping theme, I went around to all of my favorite stores and asked them for items to use in the centerpieces that reflected their brand. From there I was always helping people create themes for theirs and planned both of my little sisters as well. When I started at Ohio University I wanted to work somewhere that could propel me further in the event industry, Ohio University Catering Company. There I found a love for detail and the romantic nature that is weddings. I worked at Ohio University catering company for two years and after graduation I got my first job as an off premise catering sales manager.

·Why did you decide to join ISES?   I joined ISES to immerse myself in the Indianapolis event scene and learn from all of the amazing members.

·What is your most memorable event? Why? My most memorable event was a tented wedding in Cleveland, OH. A storm was brewing and the humidity was stifling while we set up a beautiful 90 X 120 tent in the backyard of a home. As my staff dropped like flies the rain began, thunder and lightning tore through the sky. Twenty minutes before the guests arrived the rain cleared and the sun began to shine. Everyone was in awe of the enormous tent with the beautiful décor of hot pink and black. Twenty pound whole salmon were cooked and served on foot long cedar planks as guests shared it around the table family style. It was a wonderful evening filled with great food, beautiful décor and amazing entertainment. As the evening came to a close the rain began again. This was the most beautiful wedding I had ever done and also the most strenuous, I will never forget this wedding.

·What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?  I love to sing and all things music!

·If you were not in the event industry, what would be your dream job? A fashion buyer for Nordstrom

Member Spotlight :: Christine Butler

Christine Doll

Director of Sales & Marketing |  Prairie View Golf Course

7000 Longest Drive
Carmel, IN 46033
317-816-3100 (ext 104)

Please "Like" on Facebook:

P.S.  Christine recently got married and is now Mrs. Doll (previously Christine Butler)!  Congratulations, Christine and thank you for your ISES Membership and support!  Sincerely, your ISES Indiana board of directors

·  What is your title and position at your current company?  Director of Sales and Marketing at Prairie View Golf Club

·  What does your company do? How is it different than others like it?  Prairie View Golf Club is the only Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed course in Indiana. We pride ourselves on the high quality of our course and the personalized attention that we give every golf outing, banquet, and wedding. We are one of the top rated pubic courses in Indiana and are also home to the Prairie View Golf Academy. Our instructors have won multiple awards and both coach the Park Tudor Golf Team.

·  How many years have you been in the industry?  I’ve been in the event planning and sales industry for five years, but before then, I was getting my feet wet planning special events as a Resident Assistant at the University of Southern Indiana. I enjoyed it so much and knew that this was what I wanted to do for a living.

·  What was your very first job?  My very first job, ironically, was at a golf course and banquet center when I was just 13 years old. I used to ride my bike three miles to work. Professionally, my first big girl job was working as a Sales Assistant at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis. I fell into the industry by accident and fell in love with it.

·  What lead you in into the event industry?  My Special Events and Promotions Professor, Jenny Farthing, was the most hyper and out of this world professor. She was always happy, passionate, and couldn’t tell us enough that when planning an event, you have to have fun. That class changed my life forever. I always loved hosting parties and planning events. I had a lot of experience marketing and planning events to college students while at school.

·  Why did you decide to join ISES?  I joined ISES because it is a highly respected networking organization where I can meet people who are just like me and network with folks that can help grow our business. I also want to earn my CSEP someday and know that a membership is a good place to start.

·  What is your most memorable event? Why?  While I have had some fantastic events in my professional life, my own wedding has to be the most memorable event. I just married the love of my life in September of this year and we got so many compliments about what a great party we had. Everyone had a great time, the entire event was very personal to our own style, and everything looked and went perfectly. It was very different being on the other side of things being the customer. I was just glad that I was able to take off my event planner hat for the day, put trust in the hands of some really great professionals, and enjoy my day being a bride.

·  What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?  Most people don’t know that I’m an endurance athlete. I have ran several marathons and half marathons in my day and am now transitioning into triathlons. I don’t look like an endurance athlete. I’m built like a normal person, but training for these events keeps me motivated and helps me burn off stress. I’m also an avid golfer, which is why I enjoy my job so much.

·  If you were not in the event industry, what would be your dream job?  Honestly, my job right now is my dream job. I’ve always wanted to plan weddings and banquets. The golf element was pure luck. When I found the job and applied for it, all I could think was, “Oh my gosh, I want this so bad. This job combines two things that I love so much; event planning and golf!” It was a very happy day when I was offered the position.

On the other hand, if I wasn’t doing special events, I would probably own and run a doggie day care. Most people who know me, know that my husband and I are obsessed with our furry children. I know I couldn’t be a vet because I couldn’t stand to see an animal suffer, but play with them all day long? Now, that’s a job that I could handle.
