P.S. Christine recently got married and is now Mrs. Doll (previously Christine Butler)! Congratulations, Christine and thank you for your ISES Membership and support! Sincerely, your ISES Indiana board of directors
· What is your title and position at your current company? Director of Sales and Marketing at Prairie View Golf Club
· What does your company do? How is it different than others like it? Prairie View Golf Club is the only Robert Trent Jones Jr. designed course in Indiana. We pride ourselves on the high quality of our course and the personalized attention that we give every golf outing, banquet, and wedding. We are one of the top rated pubic courses in Indiana and are also home to the Prairie View Golf Academy. Our instructors have won multiple awards and both coach the Park Tudor Golf Team.
· How many years have you been in the industry? I’ve been in the event planning and sales industry for five years, but before then, I was getting my feet wet planning special events as a Resident Assistant at the University of Southern Indiana. I enjoyed it so much and knew that this was what I wanted to do for a living.
· What was your very first job? My very first job, ironically, was at a golf course and banquet center when I was just 13 years old. I used to ride my bike three miles to work. Professionally, my first big girl job was working as a Sales Assistant at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis. I fell into the industry by accident and fell in love with it.
· What lead you in into the event industry? My Special Events and Promotions Professor, Jenny Farthing, was the most hyper and out of this world professor. She was always happy, passionate, and couldn’t tell us enough that when planning an event, you have to have fun. That class changed my life forever. I always loved hosting parties and planning events. I had a lot of experience marketing and planning events to college students while at school.
· Why did you decide to join ISES? I joined ISES because it is a highly respected networking organization where I can meet people who are just like me and network with folks that can help grow our business. I also want to earn my CSEP someday and know that a membership is a good place to start.
· What is your most memorable event? Why? While I have had some fantastic events in my professional life, my own wedding has to be the most memorable event. I just married the love of my life in September of this year and we got so many compliments about what a great party we had. Everyone had a great time, the entire event was very personal to our own style, and everything looked and went perfectly. It was very different being on the other side of things being the customer. I was just glad that I was able to take off my event planner hat for the day, put trust in the hands of some really great professionals, and enjoy my day being a bride.
· What’s one thing most people don’t know about you? Most people don’t know that I’m an endurance athlete. I have ran several marathons and half marathons in my day and am now transitioning into triathlons. I don’t look like an endurance athlete. I’m built like a normal person, but training for these events keeps me motivated and helps me burn off stress. I’m also an avid golfer, which is why I enjoy my job so much.
· If you were not in the event industry, what would be your dream job? Honestly, my job right now is my dream job. I’ve always wanted to plan weddings and banquets. The golf element was pure luck. When I found the job and applied for it, all I could think was, “Oh my gosh, I want this so bad. This job combines two things that I love so much; event planning and golf!” It was a very happy day when I was offered the position.
On the other hand, if I wasn’t doing special events, I would probably own and run a doggie day care. Most people who know me, know that my husband and I are obsessed with our furry children. I know I couldn’t be a vet because I couldn’t stand to see an animal suffer, but play with them all day long? Now, that’s a job that I could handle.
